... These vessels will be classified as 'Perdana Menteri' class.

Project 941 Russian Akula class submarine
The Typhoon class submarine is a type of nuclear-powered
ballistic missile submarine deployed by the Soviet Navy in the 1980s.
With a maximum displacement of 48,000 tonnes, Typhoons are the largest
class of submarine ever built. The NATO reporting name stems from the
use of the word "typhoon" (тайфун) by Leonid Brezhnev in a 1974 speech
while describing a new type of nuclear ballistic missile submarine. The
Typhoon class was developed under Project 941 as the Russian Akula
class (Акула), meaning shark. It is sometimes confused with other
submarines, as Akula is the name NATO uses to designate the Russian
Project 971 Shchooka-B (Щука-Б) class attack submarines.

The 1.04 biilion Euro (about RM3.4 million) procurement of two
Scorpene submarines was
signed in June 2002 between Malaysia, a French shipbuilding, submarine
and naval services company, Direction des Constructions Navales
Services (DCNS), and Spanish shipbuilder Navantina.

SCORPENE:
The Scorpene is the latest SSK from DCN to be based on the proven Am�thyste
class. It also benefits from having been developed in parallel with the
French Navy's next generation of SSNs and SSBNs. The Scorp�ne platform
offers enhanced endurance (6,400 nautical miles over 50 days) and improved
command and control systems plus comfortable living quarters. She features
a full range of ASW and ASuW weapons, a state-of-the-art combat system
and a reduced sonar signature.
