Johor FC eyeing Cameroon striker Becamengo

PETALING JAYA: Johor FC are keen to sign former Cameroon striker Christian Bekamenga Becamengo.

Becamengo, who played for FC Nantes in the French Division One last season, is no stranger to Malaysian fans after making a name for himself with Negri Sembilan seven years ago.

Head coach K. Devan said efforts were being made to engage the 25-year-old striker.

“Becamengo comes with strong credentials, having played in the Olympics. Becamengo played under me as a teenager when I was the coach of the Negri squad in 2005 and 2006. He scored about 40 goals for us then,” said Devan.

Johor FC are in eighth spot in the 14-team standings with six points from two wins and three defeats.

Devan said Becamengo would be his top priority for the club, provided the player – who is currently without a club – can sort out his travel documents.

“Becamengo is keen to come here but there is a technical problem with his travel documents. If he can get it sorted out in the next few days, we will be more than happy to sign him on,” said Devan, who felt that Becamengo would be a better player now.

“He has, after all, played in the Olympics and with a top French club for five years. I really hope he can sort out his travel documents.”

But Devan has also made contingency plans. A few foreign players from Brazil and Nigeria will be attending trials with Johor FC later this week as well.
