Re: Arsenal The Gunners
Ia tentang ketahanan mental.
- Agensi

Re: Arsenal The Gunners
- Reuters

Re: Arsenal The Gunners
Gunners sedia bedil benteng Barcelona
- AFP

Re: Arsenal The Gunners
Tanpa Puyol, Pique selesa buat The Gunners
2010/04/06
Kelebihan kini memihak kami: Bendtner

- Reuters

Re: Arsenal The Gunners
Walcott bent on bringing Bara down
Published: Monday 5 April 2010, 20.38CET
Identified by FC Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola as the main threat to his side, Arsenal FC winger Theo Walcott would cherish a starring role in Tuesday's quarter-final decider.
Theo Walcott was in relaxed mood at the pre-match media conferenceGetty Images
Singled out for his rapid impact in the first leg, winger Theo Walcott hopes to play another significant role as Arsenal FC hunt the win at FC Barcelona that would send them through to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Arsenal were on the ropes at 2-0 down in the first leg when Walcott entered the fray in the English capital last week, but his pace caused instant problems and after scoring within three minutes of coming on he eventually helped the Gunners salvage a 2-2 draw. That result has left Arsne Wenger's men probably needing victory to progress at the Camp Nou on Tuesday, and Bara coach Josep Guardiola identified the 21-year-old as the one player most capable of upsetting his European champions.
"The best thing is to react on the pitch tomorrow night," said Walcott. "Hopefully, as a winger, you can always be on the front foot and creating problems for rival teams. If you can also create space for your team-mates, then all the better. But it's nice to have rival coaches praising you."
The English international who revealed that he can run the 100m "in about 10.3 [seconds]" has no illusions about the size of the task awaiting his team, however. "We've got to be at 100% tomorrow and be honest with ourselves," he explained. "Barcelona at times play fantastic football the best I have ever seen."
They are also likely to be an even more daunting prospect in their own stadium, where they dispatched VfB Stuttgart 4-0 in the first knockout round following a 1-1 draw in Germany. "I've been at some fantastic stadiums in my short career and this one's spectacular, but if I get to play tomorrow it'll be an honour and then I hope we win," added Walcott. "I'm looking forward to being part of that."
Giving the Gunners added hope is their capacity to stay calm and deliver late goals, as they demonstrated yet again in the domestic realm at the weekend with Nicklas Bendtner's last-gasp winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. "[In the first leg], we managed to score that first goal and came back in the last 20 minutes, managing to equalise," said Walcott. "We're good at getting goals in the last minutes of games and we've done that in the Premier League."

Re: Arsenal The Gunners
Big show delights Barcelona duo

The concession of two late goals erased neither Thierry Henry and Daniel Alves's enjoyment of the 2-2 draw at Arsenal FC nor their confidence in FC Barcelona's chances.

FC Barcelona team-mates Thierry Henry and Daniel Alves united in praise of a pulsating match after their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal FC more than lived up to its star billing.
Zlatan Ibrahimović's second-half brace rewarded the visitors' dominance, but the Gunners clawed their way back into the match thanks to substitute Theo Walcott before captain Cesc Fbregas converted a late penalty after being fouled by Carles Puyol an offence for which Puyol was red-carded, leaving him suspended for Tuesday's second leg at the Camp Nou.
"Whether you're a supporter of Arsenal or Barcelona, it was, all the same, a great match to enjoy, as people often expect from the Champions League," said striker Henry, a 77th-minute substitute. "It was a beautiful match," right-back Alves concurred, "with two teams who put great importance on passing the ball. In the end we've seen a great game."
Despite losing their lead, Henry said the Barcelona dressing room were not displeased with the result. "A draw away from home is always a good result in the Champions League," said the French international. "If we analyse the match, we started well of course but they came back. It's 90 minutes and you have to go to the end. We can talk about [losing the lead] but you can't hide the fact that 2-2 away from home is a good result."
Alves, however, acknowledged a tinge of disappointment at the outcome. "I think we deserved something more out of the game," said the Brazilian international. "But football's like that. We played a great match, but we still have a good result to take back and hopefully qualify with at home." Indeed, the 26-year-old regards Bara's away goals as likely keys to the tie. "Scoring away from home is very important," he said. "Hopefully we can play to the same level in the home leg."
Fittingly, the last word went to Henry, who had returned to face his former club for the first time since his 2007 departure from north London. Having received a rapturous reception from the Arsenal fans, the 32-year-old said: "It touched me greatly as you could see at the end, it was a very special moment for me." The Gunners' all-time record scorer added: "I hoped I would be well received, but it was fantastic. It was a bit strange playing against Arsenal, but football's like that sometimes."

Re: Arsenal The Gunners
Vermaelen ready for another Bara battle

Thomas Vermaelen says Arsenal FC will travel to FC Barcelona "full of belief we can win" but knows they have to go toe to toe with the champions again after drawing 2-2 at home.

Thomas Vermaelen knows Arsenal FC will have to go toe to toe with FC Barcelona in the Camp Nou next week if they are to continue one of the most unlikely comebacks of this season's UEFA Champions League.
Arsne Wenger's team looked to be heading out of the competition when Zlatan Ibrahimović struck twice early in the second half in north London, but two goals in the final quarter of the match breathed new life into the Gunners' campaign.
"It was a good comeback. We showed that we have been mentally strong this season," Vermaelen told UEFA.com. "Barcelona played well. They played their own game and created a few chances. It was difficult for us but if you go in at half-time 0-0 anything can happen."
Instead of building on their first-half escape, however, Arsenal were caught cold by Ibrahimović less than 60 seconds into the second period and, after the same player had doubled the deficit, it took late goals from substitute Theo Walcott and a Cesc Fbregas penalty to keep their hopes alive.
Vermaelen had no doubt what had made the difference, saying: "After we went 2-0 down we were a little better physically. That was the change; we had more of the ball and there were more spaces on the pitch."
The Premier League club will nevertheless still be most people's outsiders to reach the last four for the second year running when the quarter-final concludes on Tuesday, although Vermaelen is remaining positive: "There are better results if you play first at home but you have to believe as a football player. Anything can happen and we go there with the full belief we can win."
The powerful Belgium defender is also clear where Arsenal will have to improve in the Camp Nou, adding: "We have to do what we didn't do very well in the first half close them down more in midfield and play a little higher up the pitch. We didn't show them too much respect, we just didn't close them down we gave them too much space."
Arsenal satisfaction was tempered by injuries to Andrey Arshavin, William Gallas and, most crucially, Fbregas, who left the stadium on crutches after going off on a stretcher late on. He was "hoping for the best but expecting the worst" when he has a scan on his leg on Thursday morning.
The Arsenal captain was nevertheless able to appreciate a memorable evening against the club where he started his career. "It was very, very difficult. These experiences help in life, but they were very impressive. We were playing the best team in the world. We just couldn't get the ball off them."
